The
church's history can be traced to a rented shophouse in Boon
Tat Street, where it was first established in 1889. Since
its inception, the Telok Ayer Chinese Methodist Church has
played a significant role in the birth of Methodism in
Singapore through English and American missionaries who
preached in Chinatown. The building that houses the church
today was built in 1924 - 25, and it was gazetted as
national monument in 1989. |
