| The Capricorn Region is four
great holiday destinations in one. Rockhampton and its immediate
surrounds are graced with superb examples of its European and
Aboriginal history, while adjacent the Capricorn Coast has
beautiful coastal rainforests , sub-tropical islands such as Great
Keppel Island and unspoiled sandy beaches . To the west the
colourful patchwork of diverse farming, cattle and mining
industries captures those who travel to Capricorn’s Rural
Hinterland. The Central Highlands and Sapphire Gemfields offer
visitors the opportunity to strike it rich fossicking for
Sapphire's or enjoying the magnificent beauty of Carnarvon Gorge. |
| The Capricorn Region is your
entry to Tropical Queensland. The Tropic of Capricorn runs through
the region and the major centre of Rockhampton, the first
Australian City 'in the tropics'. This unique address ensures
there is something for everyone in the Capricorn Region, enjoy
tropical islands, magnificent beaches, aboriginal & colonial
heritage, state forests, 13 national parks and the chance to
fossick for your own sapphires. |

Clothing:
Rockhampton is located on the
Tropic of Capricorn and the region enjoys warm weather year round,
so a swimsuit, hat and sunscreen are essential. Casual lightweight
clothing is generally worn, and a jacket may be required for
cooler winter evenings. In the outback areas of the Capricorn
Region at Emerald, Carnarvon Gorge and the Sapphire Gemfields the
days are warm and nights chilly (typical outback weather). Long
trousers and laced shoes are recommended for fossicking and
bushwalking and you will need hats, sunscreen and warm jackets and
clothing during winter.
Beach Safety:
The safe, warm waters provide excellent water sport
opportunities year round. There are very few marine stingers and
these are only at certain times of the year. Ask the life guard on
duty as major islands and mainland beaches are patrolled.
