On the Reef:
Bundaberg provides easy access to
the “two ladies of the reef”, Lady Elliot and Lady Musgrave
Islands. These magnificent islands are true coral cays and
visitors can discover jewel-bright starfish, sea urchins, clams
and corals just metres from the shore! Scuba divers may come face
to face with a manta ray or moray eel, and snorkellers with giant
rainbow coloured parrot fish or coral trout. Visitors can stay on
the islands or enjoy their beauty on a day trip.

Talk to the Animals:
Every year from mid August to mid
October, magnificent Humpback whales pass close to Bundaberg’s
coastline leaving visitors awed as they frolic. At Mon Repos Beach
Australia’s largest most accessible turtle rookery, many species
of turtles come ashore from November to February to lay their
eggs. From early January until March, the tiny hatchlings may be
seen emerging from their sandy nests.

History & Heritage:
This region is ripe with history.
In Childers discover the much awarded Pharmaceutical Museum
containing the original red cedar fixtures, a 1906 cash register
and leather bound prescription books.
Bundaberg’s Botanical Gardens house the Bundaberg and District
Historical Museum , a Sugar Museum at Fairymead House and Hinkler
House Memorial Museum, along with an authentic coal fired steam
cane train which operates on Sundays.

National Parks and
Gardens:
Bundaberg has over 500 hectares
of parkland. Alexandra Park with its Victorian era band rotunda
(1910) also has a free zoo. Bert Hinkler studied ibis in flight at
the Bundaberg Botanical Gardens before he went on to become one of
the world’s greatest pioneer aviators. Surrounding Bundaberg are
14 diverse National Parks - from rugged ranges and rainforest to
the reef - including Erimbula National Park where Sir Joseph Banks
collected plants, or marvel at the Mystery Craters, a 25 million
year old geological mystery with unique formations of sandstone,
siltstone and red ochre.

Bundy’s drinks:
The real flavour of Queensland
can be found at the Bundaberg Rum Distillery , which operates
tours regularly throughout the year and the brewed soft drink is
exported to eight overseas countries. Tropical Wines proudly make
their wine from fruit, not grapes. Sample and purchase its unique
varieties at their North Bundaberg winery. |
