Central Australia is exactly that - an incredibly
beautiful and mysterious region lying right in the middle of
Australia.
Alice Springs, Australia's most famous outback town is the major
population centre in Central Australia and has a population of
around 25000 people. It is the ideal base for exploring the
Central Australia region. You can take a hot air balloon ride, go
to a dinner on a camel, cruise through the Alice on a Harley
Davidson or visit a working cattle station and experience a real
cattle muster.
A short drive from Alice Springs are the East & West
MacDonnell Ranges - featuring historic sites, parks, gorges, gem
fields and waterholes. Explore the ranges rugged gorges, gaps and
chasms and experience the unspoiled serenity of this region. Visit
the Arltunga Historical Reserve where you can explore the ghost
town complete with remains of mining camps and old mines.
Five hours drive from Alice Springs within Uluru Kata-Tjuta
National Park is Australia's best known icon, Ayers Rock. It is an
awesome sight, particularly if the sun is rising or setting.
Witness a magnificent display of colours as the rockface changes
from dusky blues and purples to fierce orange and reds.
Only 36kms from the worlds most famous rock, lie The Olgas (Kata
Tjuta). This mass of rock covers 35 square kilometres and rises
546 metres above the ground. Talk a walk through the Valley of the
Winds on a path that snakes its way through the monuments. You'll
be amazed by their sheer size and beauty.
Kings Canyon, dubbed Australia's Grand
Canyon, is located just four hours drive south west of Alice
Springs. Take a trail down to the "Garden of Eden", an
idyllic waterhole surrounded by cycads or take in the spectacular
view from the rim of 300 metre high canyon.
